DANVILLE, Pa. — A Danville police officer has shot and killed two cows that escaped from a trailer and led pursuers on a chase.
The cows wandered back and forth across Route 11 and ended up on the Danville Middle School grounds Tuesday — with police and the owner close behind.
Police Sgt. Bill Wilt says a cow broke the metal gate of a portable pen the owner had brought to confine the animals. He says he and the owner decided the cows had to be shot for safety reasons.
Wilt says the decision was made as “the last resort” as the cows crossed the road, traipsed along Mahoning Creek and onto the school grounds.
