LOUSIA, Va. — On Saturday, the Louisa Police Department in Virginia posted on their Facebook page asking whether anyone had seen two people wearing hollowed-out watermelons on their heads who were suspected of stealing from a Sheetz.

Yep, that really was “watermelons on their heads.”

The police said the pair arrived at the Sheetz in stolen 2006 Black Toyota Tacoma with the melons on their heads — complete with “holes cut out for the eyes” and went “into the store where they proceeded to commit a larceny.”

One of the suspects has been arrested, but police were still on the lookout for the second person.

“I definitely give them some points for ingenuity,” customer Barry Welch told WRIC in Richmond, Va. “In a time like this, you could’ve worn any kind of mask, but to come up with a watermelon …”

WRIC reports Justin M. Rogers has been charged with wearing a mask in public while committing larceny, underage possession of alcohol, and petit larceny of alcohol.

Another customer, Candice Wendt, felt the duo’s getup went a bit too far.

“I think it’s ridiculous,” she said. “Innovative but ridiculous. The amount of work that you have to do to actually hollow out a watermelon to stick it on your head, I think, is kind of crazy. Why would they do that? It’s so stupid.”

At least they were covering their faces.
