CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Members of the Corpus Christi Police Department took part in a Law Enforcement Torch Run on Wednesday afternoon along the bayfront, honoring Texas’ 45th annual Special Olympics summer games, which kick off Thursday at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Local officers received the torch from Border Patrol personnel from Kingsville and then took part in a group run, bringing it down Shoreline Boulevard.

Torch runs also have taken place in Amarillo, Lubbock, Abilene and Austin, with San Antonio next on the list. The final torch ceremony is scheduled Friday in Arlington.

There will be two delegations from the Coastal Bend area — from Flour Bluff and West Oso — that will join thousands of other athletes.

Events at the games include basketball, track and field, cycling, gymnastics, soccer and tennis.
