AUSTIN — Austin police arrested three members of a family and video of the incident has gone viral, FOX 7 reported.
The person who recorded the video, the person in the video and a younger brother were arrested after a police confrontation at an apartment complex.
The subject of the video, Louis Aguilar, was charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer. He claimed police pushed his mother.
The video has sparked a debate about the definition of compliance.
“There’s a significant portion of our population who somehow one way or another has got it in their head that they don’t have to obey a police officer, a lawful command from a police officer,” Texas Municipal Police Association President Kevin Lawrence said to the news site.
Lawrence told FOX 7 the viral video exemplifies the conversation and resistance the public has to comply.
“He is actively resisting arrest,” Lawrence said in his interview. “The officer is telling him to put his hands behind his back and he’s consistently refusing to.”
If it’s an illegal arrest, it can be fought later — in court, Lawrence told FOX 7.
