UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — As Nicole Findley was on her way to her graduation Friday, she received a standing ovation from her blue family.
Prince George County officers lined the highway with their police lights flashing in a show of support for Findley. Her father, Sgt. Richard Findley, was killed in the line of duty in 2008 when the driver of a stolen vehicle ran him over and dragged him, KTVU reported.
“For those us with children, we know how important it is to be at graduations and we are sad her father can’t be here with her today,” Deputy Chief Chris Murtha. “But we are glad that we can come out here and hopefully spread a little bit of cheer in her world.”

Murtha told KTVU that they came out to show her that they will never forget about Findley’s sacrifice.
“We can never be the father that they lost, but it’s our attempt, as humble as it can be, to come out here and try and demonstrate that we haven’t forgotten and we never will,” he said.
