NEW YORK — A man cut off pieces of his own intestines and skin and threw them at police officers trying to subdue him Sunday.
Police said officers found Wayne Carter, 43, on Sunday while responding to a barricaded man who had threatened self-harm.
Two officers kicked the door in and saw Carter in a corner wielding a knife, which he refused to drop, NBC New York reported.
Carter stood up and stabbed himself in the legs, neck and abdomen while yelling at officers, who used pepper spray to no effect, Lt. John Heinemann said. Carter then sliced off parts of his intestines and skin and threw them at the officers.
Police retreated and called in Bergen County SWAT to help restrain Carter and get him to the hospital.
Due to the “unusual nature” of the case, no charges have been filed, police said.
