RENTON, Wash. — The city of Renton is going after the anonymous creator of a series of video cartoons that parody police.
Prosecutors are accusing the animator -- known only as “MrFiddlesticks” – of recreating real Renton officers and personally attacking them.
One character is thought to be mirrored after a former Renton Police Public Information Officer who currently works as a jail administrator, according to KIRO-7.
“The department does not like laundry being aired in public,” the character says.
Adultery, sleeping while on duty, and “throwing someone off a bridge” are among the accusations the cartoonist makes against police, and a search warrant has been served to Google in the hope it will help oust the identity of the offensive animator. Historically, Google and YouTube are far more likely to cough up an animator’s real name if a criminal case is ongoing, according to KIRO-7.
Two of the videos have been posted by the news station, and sources say six or seven others may be circulating elsewhere on the web.
