FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio — A Franklin County grand jury has cleared an officer who shot and killed a man who stabbed him this past summer.
Officer Timothy Davis was attempting to arrest Derick Alexander, 51, on domestic-violence charges after Alexander’s wife called police from Doctors Hospital to say he had beaten her.
Davis confronted Alexander in a garage in the 200 block of Belvidere Avenue on the Hilltop about 4 a.m. on July 14.
Alexander stabbed Davis twice before he was fatally shot.
Grand jurors heard the case on Wednesday and declined to indict Davis, a nine-year police veteran.
The Division of Police will conduct its own investigation to determine whether internal policies were followed.
