Secure the stuff in your squad

No one goes into a shift expecting to wrap their squad around a pole, get t-boned in an intersection, or get whacked by some idiot in a real-end wreck, but as we know all too well, it can — and does — happen. Something to remember is that on impact, all the unsecured gear will go flying. All that “stuff” in your car can become a hail of extremely dangerous blunt projectiles. Keep that in mind when you load up your unit before each shift. Whenever possible, secure your gear in a fashion that will help prevent it from going airborne should you come to a sudden stop.

It’s a good idea to also check the nuts and bolts which hold in place the “mounted devices” in the cockpit. Every time you hit a bump is another opportunity for nut/bolt fixtures — at least those which are not safety-wired — to work themselves loose. Just because it LOOKS locked down, doesn’t mean it actually IS locked down.

Stay safe out there.
