CHICAGO — The Chicago Police Department said goodbye to one of their own Sunday with a traditional last call.
“This is a final call for Chicago Police Explosives K-9 Rachel,” the dispatcher said. “K-9 Rachel has faithfully served the Chicago Police Department since June 2006. On December 18, 2016, rest in peace canine Rachel. Correct time is 0911 hours. This is the last call.”
K-9 Rachel was put down after the cancer in her spine left her partially paralyzed, the Chicago Tribune reported.
K-9 Rachel worked with her handler Officer Charles Kocanda for 10 years as an explosives detection K-9 for the Transportation Security Administration.
Rachel has served and protected the president, first lady, and dignitaries, according to the publication.
