NEW YORK -- The ex-boyfriend of a New York City police forensic investigator whose naked body was found tied to a bed in a pool of blood has been sentenced to at least 29 years in prison.
Twenty-four-year-old Gary McGurk pleaded guilty to manslaughter and tampering with evidence in the death of Michelle Lee. Her body, which had burn marks on her abdomen, was found in her apartment on April 27, 2009. She also had been stabbed in the neck and hit with a blunt object.
Justice Gregory Lasak on Wednesday sentenced the Irish-born McGurk to the maximum sentence allowable under the law _ between 29 and 37 years in prison. He also faces deportation.
McGurk apologized to Lee’s family before being sentencing, saying he didn’t deserve forgiveness.
The two had met at John Jay College of Criminal Justice while studying to be forensic investigators.
