ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County sheriff’s deputy is charged with fleeing and eluding deputies after an incident Sunday night.
Officials said that at about 8 p.m. deputies attempted to pull over a silver Infiniti because of an expired tag and no seat belt.
When deputies tried to initiate a traffic stop at Good Homes Road and State Road 50, the driver made a U-turn and accelerated away from the emergency lights and sirens, according to a news release.
Due to the safety concerns, deputies stopped their pursuit and began an investigation into the identity of the violator.
Authorities said an investigation found that the driver was Aaron Larkin, an off-duty deputy in a personal vehicle.
Larkin has been relieved of duty without pay and his law enforcement authority stripped, according to officials.
Deputies said he cannot use or represent himself as a deputy sheriff. Larkin’s status will remain in effect as the court proceedings move forward, and as long as the ensuing Orange County Professional Standards investigation is active.
Larkin has been employed with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office since July 2008, and was assigned to the patrol division.
