FLINT, Mich. — An off-duty Michigan State trooper died after suffering a medical emergency while driving on an interstate.

Reports say Officer David Stokes pulled off the road into weeds Thursday evening. He was transported to the hospital, but attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Stokes, a 14-year police veteran who was married to a fellow Flint officer, Janelle Stokes, is remembered as a family man, according to The Flint Journal. He leaves behind his wife, two sons and a daughter.

“His family meant everything to him.” Stokes’ partner said.
