STERLINGTON, La. — A Louisiana officer was struck by a vehicle and killed while conducting a traffic stop early Sunday.
According to the News Star, Sgt. David Elahi passed away shortly after being hit by the vehicle as he was interviewing a subject. Two other offices were also hit. Those officers were transported to a hospital after suffering minor injuries and were later released.
The suspect in the collision, 44-year-old Tracy Govan, was driving impaired when he hit the three officers with his truck. Govan faces charges of vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury, improper lane usage and failure to move over for an emergency vehicle on the shoulder, according to the report.
An investigation is ongoing.
