Duty Death: Bill Talbert - [Rockville]

ROCKVILLE, Md. — A police officer died Friday of Hepatitis C, which he contracted after an on-duty injury.
Officer Bill Talbert, 64, was struck by a drunk driver in 1980 as he stood between his cruiser and another car, the Officer Down Memorial Page reported. He underwent a blood transfusion at a local hospital, and it was later disocvered he received Hepatitis C-infected blood.
In 1984 he medically retired and suffered continued deteroriating health until his passing.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, according to The Journal. A father of four and a husband, Talbert received several awards for service in the line of duty, including recognition from Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Veterans Administration.
