Duty Death: Colvin Georges
By Police1 Staff
A US Virgin Islands officer has died after succumbing to injuries sustained in a contact four months prior with a group of men loitering.
In May, Officer Colvin Georges and his partner were patrolling an area of St. Thomas where a shooting had occurred the previous night, according to The Officer Down Memorial Page. As they approached the group near a car wash, one man opened fire.
Both officers returned fire, killing one suspect and injuring another. In the exchange of gunfire, Georges received a serious injury that paralyzed him from the neck down.
Georges was flown to a Miami, Fla., hospital where he remained in critical condition until his death Saturday. He had served in law enforcement for two years.
