WASHINGTON — An investigation is underway after a special police officer was found fatally shot early Sunday near an apartment complex, NBC 4 reported. 

Officers responding to a report of gunshots just after midnight found Shawn Minor, 33, dead in the parking lot. Police said Minor was on duty and wearing his uniform at the time.  

Few details were immediately released. Authorities are offering a reward up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest, according to the report.

Minor was employed as a special police officer by Edwards Security Consultants, an ESC official told Police1. Special police officers are commissioned law enforcement officers who work in private security and protective services.
