HAMDEN, Conn. — A retired police detective here has been arrested after police said they found about $70,000 in counterfeit money in his home.

John Oneto, 41, has been charged with forgery and attempted larceny after a search of his home last night.

Police Chief Thomas Wydra says officers seized items and evidence involved in counterfeiting money. He says arresting a former detective is very disturbing.

Oneto was a Hamden officer 16 years, retiring in 2004 on a disability.
