INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis police officer is jailed on a preliminary charge of murder in connection with a shooting after a tavern’s New Year’s Eve party.

Police say 32-year-old Shannon McComas gave a stolen gun to Sunungura Rusununguko, who is charged with fatally shooting a security guard and injuring four other people outside Durty Nelly’s pub about 3:30 a.m. Jan. 1.

Authorities say McComas’ wife is manager of the bar on the city’s east side and his father-in-law is listed as its owner. Police said McComas was on sick leave but might have been working at the bar that night.

Thirty-year-old bouncer Ronnie Croom Jr. died in the shooting.

The Marion County Jail on Monday had no attorney listed for McComas, who is being held without bond.
