NEW JERSEY — A Rider college student says she was gang-raped early Friday morning by a group of men that included several off-duty New Jersey state troopers, according to reports.
In a press release, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office confirms only the basic details: that investigators are looking into allegations by a 25-year-old female student that she was sexually assaulted at Ewing Township residence early Friday morning by “multiple male individuals including one or more memmbers of the New Jersey state police.”
According to media reports, citing various sources, the woman is a Rider college student, the assault can be described as a gang-rape, and four state troopers have been suspended with pay.
The officers are “road” troopers assigned to Troop C, which covers counties in central Jersey, according to the Courier-Post. WPVI-TV (Ch. 6), however, is reporting that the suspended officers are two troopers, a detective and an instructor from the state police academy.
The woman was treated at a local hospital after the alleged attack, according to Angelo Onofri, Mercer County assistant prosecutor.
No charges had been filed as of yesterday.
Al Della Fave, a spokesman for the state police, says the agency is fully cooperating with the investigation.
At least two TV reports say she first met up with the men at the Trenton bar, Katmandu.
