The Times of Trenton
TRENTON, N.J. — Police yesterday announced arrests in connection with the ambush of a police SUV last month that left the vehicle riddled with five bullet holes. The officers narrowly escaped injury.
A 23-year-old city resident already charged with a West Ward shooting in May was arrested Wednesday. James Ellis Grant was the second person charged in the SUV attack. A 17-year-old Trenton youth was taken into custody two weeks ago and, like Grant, was charged with two counts of attempted murder, police said during a news conference.
The announcement at police headquarters capped an intensive three-week investigation police began within minutes after bullets from a rifle tore through the officers’ vehicle as they patrolled Stuyvesant Avenue late on the night of May 14.
