MELROSE, NY — A NYPD officer who was injured after being pinned between two cars by carjacking and robbery suspects was released from the hospital Tuesday.
According to ABC 7, Officer Vanessa Rodriguez, 24, was hurt while trying to apprehend suspects of a crime spree. Police say Rodriguez opened fire after the driver of a carjacked vehicle suddenly drove in reverse, into Rodriguez, pinning her between two cars and dragging her in an effort to flee.
The officer opened fire during the incident and hit the driver, who is in critical condition at a local hospital.
Rodriguez suffered injuries to her hip, pelvis and leg, but is expected to make a full recovery.
