LOGAN COUNTY, Ark. — A police chief who was shot in the leg while responding to a call still managed to arrest his attacker.

KFSM reported that Police Chief Albert Brown and other officers were responding to a call of a suicidal man Wednesday when Gregory Rongey came around the corner of a house with two guns and immediately opened fire. Brown was shot in the leg.

Police didn’t return fire, but multiple officers — including Brown — tackled Rongey and took him into custody.

“He arrested the guy after he [the suspect] shot him,” Sheriff Boyd Hicks told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. “He placed the man in custody.”

A colleague drove Brown to the hospital where is currently listed in stable condition.

Rongey was booked on a first-degree battery charge. An investigation is ongoing.
