DENVER — The Denver Police Department on Thursday publicly identified the two officers who were shot over the weekend during an hours-long standoff, and one was released from the hospital.

Officers Richard Jaramillo and Steve Gameroz were responding to reports of gunshots in the 600 block of Inca Street when a suspect shot them around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, according to police. They were transported to Denver Health Medical Center for treatment of their injuries, and a standoff between the suspect and other officers ensued for hours following the shooting.

After officers deployed chemical agents into the suspect’s home, and the house caught fire, Joseph Quintana was taken into custody at about 6 p.m. He died on Monday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.

Jaramillo was released from the hospital at noon Thursday. Gameroz remains hospitalized in “fair condition,” police said.

Authorities have not described the extent of the officers’ injuries.
