WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. — A West Columbia police officer was shot in the head Tuesday while serving a bench warrant at a residence.
The State reports four-year veteran Officer Trip Holland was speaking to 51-year-old William Kernan through a window when a shot was fired through a wall — striking Holland in the head.
Holland was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is reportedly in good condition after undergoing surgery.
Kernan, who’s had multiple prior encounters with the department, surrendered after a standoff, according to the report.
Charges are pending against the suspect. He is currently in custody on charges related to the warrant.
