Houston police group protests sold-out Beyonce concert

The officers believed her message to be ‘anti-police’

HOUSTON — A police group protested a sold-out Beyonce concert Saturday night, condemning the singer for what they call her “anti-police” message, KHOU reported.

According to the Houston Chronicle, about 25 demonstrators gathered at the protest organized by the Coalition of Police and Sheriffs (C.O.P.S.). The protesters were upset by Beyonce’s controversial Super Bowl performance that was interpreted by some as paying homage to the Black Panthers movement and her “anti-police” music video for the single “Formation.”

“Some of her performances we believe to be anti-police,” protester Tony Ragsdale, who is a member of the Pasadena Police Department and C.O.P.S., told the news site.

Members of C.O.P.S. shined a blue spotlight on the stadium as a silent protest.

Some Beyonce fans were not convinced of the anti-cop message.

“That’s stupid, she’s not against cops,” Mitchell Moser told KHOU.

Last week at another sold-out show in Tampa, a plane flew overhead with the message “Blue Lives Matter.”

Beyonce responded to the critics in an interview in the May 2016 issue of Elle.

“I have so much admiration and respect for officers and the families of officers,” Beyoncé told the publication. “Anyone who perceives my message as anti-police is completely mistaken.”
