This week’s photo comes from the Idaho State Police (ISP).

In the photo, Sgt. Brandalyn Crapo poses with a great horned owl she helped rescue.

“Great horned owls are common in Idaho. What’s not common is to find one with its talons trapped in plastic in a very dangerous spot on a busy freeway,” ISP officials shared on LinkedIn.

According to police, the sergeant tracked down the owl after receiving several calls about the distressed bird. She parked her cruiser between the owl and oncoming traffic and waited for animal control to arrive. Since the bird didn’t appear to be injured, an animal control volunteer with Animals in Distress snapped this photo before setting it free.
