CLINTON, Conn. — Five juveniles were taken into custody Wednesday morning after fleeing from officers in a stolen car and then running away on foot after pulling into the parking lot of the police headquarters, officials say.

Officers responded to suspicious activity in the Sols Point Road area at about 4 a.m. and discovered juveniles in a stolen vehicle, the Clinton Police Department said in a post on Facebook.

Police said the vehicle fled, leading officers to deploy stop sticks, which disabled one of the vehicle’s tires. They said the incident took an unexpected turn when the vehicle continued down East Main Street and pulled directly into the rear parking lot of the town’s police headquarters.

Police said all five occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into the surrounding neighborhood and wooded areas. They said officers established a perimeter with assistance from the Connecticut State Police, Madison police and the Clinton Fire Department’s Drone Unit.

One juvenile was quickly located by a patrol officer, police said, while Clinton Police Corporal Jason Frey and K-9 Monte tracked the remaining four into thick brush behind police headquarters.

“Thanks to Monte’s outstanding work, all four were located and taken into custody without further incident,” they said.

Police said the stolen vehicle was recovered and there were no serious injuries reported.

“This is a great example of coordinated police work, effective use of technology, and teamwork bringing a potentially dangerous situation to a safe conclusion,” they said.
