HUMBLE, Texas — Michael Martinez, 8, really wants to be a police officer. So when his school hosted a career day, it was a no-brainer for the third grader to dress up as a cop. But the day turned sour.

Michael’s mom, Angie Martinez, said a classmate bullied her son that day, according to FOX 26. Michael was born prematurely and uses a wheelchair, Martinez explained.

“He just kind of put his hands on him, shook him a little bit and kind of threw him to the side off of his wheelchair,” said Martinez.

“This boy came up to me and kind of shook me,” Michael said.

That’s when the Houston Police Department stepped in. According to FOX 26, the department has treated Michael like one of their own, giving him a police escort to school, a tour of their vehicles and other gifts.

“I didn’t know the police were picking me up,” said Michael. "I had a really fun day.”

Houston police officers took Michael to class with their lights and sirens and visited him for lunch, according to the report.

“This was the most exciting thing that’s happened,” Michael said.

The school district released a statement saying the student in the bullying incident was disciplined.
