JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. – An off-duty sergeant was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday while he helped direct traffic following an accident.
According to NBC 9, Sergeant Sean Renfro, a 15-year-veteran of the force, stopped to assist after a driver lost control and ran off the road.
A vehicle then struck the back of Renfro’s truck as it was parked on the shoulder. Renfro stayed on the scene as troopers arrived in response to the accidents.
Shortly after, an SUV lost control and hit Renfro and a bystander.
Renfro died at the scene. The bystander was taken to the hospital and is undergoing treatment.
Renfro is survived by his wife and four children, according to the report.
