WORCESTER, Mass. — Fourteen officers set out to Washington D.C. for Police Week to raise money for their local Boys & Girls Club and remember a fallen colleague.
The Worcester police officers left Tuesday for their 460 mile run, MassLive.com reported. The money raised will benefit the track and field program at their local club.
“Anything is possible, whether it’s running 460 miles for somebody else or just to get out and hop on a track and do something constructive after school,” Brian Piskator said.
The officers are also running to remember Officer Ronald Tarentino, who was fatally shot during a traffic stop in 2016. Tarentino will be honored at the Fallen Officers Memorial vigil on Saturday.
“I’m so proud to have a group of officers like this one in our police department and representing our city from here to Washington D.C.,” City Manager Edward Augustus Jr. said. “We need a lot of heart and we need a lot of inspiration in this country these days and these guys are providing it.”
A Crowdrise has been set up to help the officers meet their goal. The page has raised close to $28,000.
