BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Michigan State Police released body camera footage of an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead.
WoodTV reported that Benton Harbor officers received a call of a hostage situation involving an armed suspect. When they arrived to the home, the residents allowed the officers to conduct a search, but said they did not call the police.
As officers were leaving the scene, Darius Wimberly, 28, allegedly opened fire on officers from across the street.
Officers returned fire in self-defense, fatally wounding Wimberly who died shortly after the shootout, the station reported.
The body camera footage is from the officer who did not shoot Wimberly, but shows the officer running for cover, turning his weapon toward the gunfire.
No officers were injured during the shooting.
