MARIETTA, Texas — A man was wounded after a bullet ricocheted off an armadillo and hit him in the face.
Myhighplains reported that the man saw the animal in his yard on July 27, grabbed his revolver and shot at it.
“His wife was in the house. He went outside and took his .38 revolver and shot three times at the armadillo,” Sheriff Larry Rowe said.
The armadillo’s shell protected it from the bullets, sending at least one of the three back at the man’s face. He was struck in the jaw. The man was airlifted to the hospital where his jaw was wired shut.
Rowe said the animal’s status is unknown because they couldn’t find it.
