ORLANDO — Cell phone video released on Monday shows the deputy-involved shooting of a mentally ill man attacking an Orange County Sheriff’s corporal in August outside the World Wrestling Entertainment training center.

Armando Montalvo arrived at the center, 5055 Forysth Commerce Road, on Aug. 31 and attempted to get inside, deputies said. Montalvo, 29, had an injunction filed against him for trespassing and was barred from the premises, deputies said.

Authorities say he wanted to be a wrestler and had an obsession with one of the female WWE wrestlers.

The cell phone video shows Montalvo banging on the door and yelling inside before deputies arrive.

Cpl. Stephen Wahl and another deputy arrived on scene and started to yell at Montalvo to get on the ground. Montalvo started yelling at the deputies and ignored their commands.

He then grabbed something on the ground before charging at Wahl.

Wahl retreated several feet before pulling out his gun and shooting Montalvo once in the chest. Montalvo was just a couple feet from Wahl when the shooting occurred.

Montalvo fell onto the ground and was later taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery.

He survived. He’s charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Wahl said in his report that he thought Montalvo was armed with a knife, but it’s not clear from if he actually had one.

Montalvo was also arrested at the facility on Aug. 4 for trespassing.

Records show he has previously been arrested for trespassing and assaulting a police officer.

He has bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, split personalities and a drug addiction, according to records.

In an interview with agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Montalvo’s father said his son was sick and needed treatment.

Montalvo is slated to go on trial in February.
