As a deputy, 10-8 Video President Jubal Ragsdale’s department did not have video in their cars. Years later, this became his inspiration to evaluate the current video system market and help change it. With 25-plus years in the computer and electronics industry, he began designing a system that focused on reliability and affordability so smaller departments could afford such systems. Read more about 10-8 Video and the new products they’re developing.

Where did your company name “10-8 Video” originate from?
It is a double meaning, really. As a law enforcement officer, 10-8 generally means ‘On Duty, available and ready for the next call’. It is also sort of a slang term you hear among officers referring to something that is cool; for example ‘Hey, that new flashlight is 10-8!’. So for our In-Car Video System, we think both meanings fit.

What was the inspiration behind starting your company?
As a deputy, I was given the honor of getting a K-9 and working interdiction. As a small department, we did not have video in our cars. And nowadays, video is a necessity and expected, and many departments arefinding out that “if it’s not on video, it didn’t happen”. I looked at what video systems were on the market, and they were all overpriced and complicated, making them unreliable. I had 25-plus years in the computer and electronics industry and started designing a system with a major focus on reliability, affordability and with no moving parts. With my experience in the computer industry, writing to a DVD or hard drive in a moving vehicle was never considered.

Why do you believe your products are essential to the Police community?
This is very much a video driven society. With complaints against officers becoming more common, it is often video that clears the officer. Of course, it is also invaluable for prosecution!

What has been the biggest challenge your company has faced?
Keeping up with demand. We continue to grow at a tremendous rate and just recently moved into a new building with room to grow. We have so many repeat customers and they really talk us up to surrounding departments. Much of our sales growth can be attributed to referrals from departments already using our equipment.

What makes your company unique?
Even with our growth and additional staff, as president of the company, I am still able to do what I enjoy; working full time as a narcotics officer with the local Sheriff’s Department.

What do your customers like best about you and your products?
Our customer service, reliable product and a three year full parts replacement warranty. If you have a problem with a component, call us and we will get a replacement part out within 48 hours. When you receive it, just send the old part back. Once the system is installed, each of our major components are designed so that they can be replaced in as little as five minutes. This keeps our customer’s down time to a minimum.

What is the most rewarding part of serving the first responder community?
Hearing from officers and seeing some of their interesting videos and how they were used to the officer’s benefit.

What’s next for your company? Any upcoming new projects or initiatives?
You bet! Stay tuned for our upcoming wearable recorder with GPS. We are always making changes as technology evolves to make our product even more reliable and cutting edge.
