MOKENA, Ill. — A Mokena police officer was shocked with his own Taser during a struggle with another man early Sunday morning, police said.
The incident began when the officer saw 26-year-old James Abramowicz driving his Mustang and “doing burnouts” in the parking lot of the 191 South restaurant and bar at 10160 W. 191st St., police said.
Police stopped him in a nearby parking lot, where he refused to show them his driver’s license. Abramowicz then ran from his car.
Another officer arrived and began chasing him up a hill and demanding he stop, but Abramowicz cursed at the officer and kept running. Both men fell as they ran up the hill, and the second officer ordered Abramowicz onto his stomach, police said. Instead, he grabbed the Taser with both hands and tried to pull it away. During the ensuing struggle, the Taser went off, causing both men to be shocked, police said.
