BALTIMORE, Md. — A 6-year-old boy was caught yesterday with two loaded handguns in a classroom at Randallstown Elementary School, Baltimore County police said this morning.
Police said the weapons were discovered after a 9mm Kahr handgun fell from his pocket about 10:30 a.m. Police said it was fully loaded, and one round was in the chamber.
School officials detained the youth and called police. A subsequent search of the youth’s backpack revealed a 40-caliber Glock handgun, also fully loaded with a round in the chamber, police said.
The youth was detained and then turned over to his parents. No information was available this morning as to whether juvenile charges were filed.
Kara Calder, a spokeswoman for the Baltimore County school system, said this morning that she did not know whether the incident was reported to parents.
“Once recovery of a weapon is involved it is a police matter and subject to police investigation,” Calder said. “It is clear that any weapon in a school is inappropriate, and it certainly is unusual.”
