PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — A 20-year-old man fleeing Fla. police crashed his car into a fire truck Monday.
The truck was in the road while firefighters worked at a commercial fire when Hermino Espino drove his SUV into a power pole, an emergency vehicle and the fire truck at nearly 60 mph, according to First Coast News.
The fire truck in turn knocked a volunteer firefighter into a pool set up to help fight the fire.
Espino got out of the vehicle and ran directly into a firefighter, who held him until police arrived.
He tried to run again when the deputy took him into custody, the article said, so the deputy used his TASER to subdue him. Police found cocaine and cannabis while processing Espino.
Firefighters attended to a 15-year-old who was in the car with Espino and examined Espino, who had a laceration on his left ear that “appeared as though the ear had been nearly amputated,” according to the deputy’s report.
