RANDALLSTOWN, Md. — Baltimore County police say officers have shot and killed a woman who barricaded herself and a child inside a suburban Baltimore apartment and pointed a gun at them.

Authorities say a 5-year-old boy was shot in a limb Monday and taken to a hospital. Police could not determine if he was shot by the woman or officers.

The department said in a news release that detectives went to the Randallstown apartment about 9:25 a.m. to serve arrest warrants.

Police say when a detective entered the apartment, 23-year-old Korryn Gaines was sitting on the floor, pointing a long gun at him. Police then retreated.

Police say about 3 p.m., Gaines pointed the gun at an officer and threatened to kill him. An officer shot at Gaines, and police say she returned fire.

The woman died at the scene. No officers were injured.
