WEST LINN, Ore. — A hole in a road construction zone made short work of an accused bank robber’s getaway, Oregon police reported.

A 55-year-old man brandishing a large knife leaped over the counter to rob a West Linn bank at 12:25 p.m. Monday, July 1, West Linn police said in a news release.

The accused robber fled in a black SUV into Tigard, where his vehicle became stuck after striking a large hole on an overpass under construction, Tigard police said.

The driver jumped out and tried to run away on the highway below the overpass, but officers arrested him, Tigard police said.

A tracking device in the stolen cash assisted police in the aborted pursuit, West Linn police said.

The man faces charges of robbery, eluding police and reckless driving, police said.

No one was injured in the incident, Tigard police said.

West Linn is about a 10-mile drive south from Portland.
