The Associated Press

KINGMAN, Ariz. - A deadly police shootout early Thursday in the Kingman area has left a suspect dead and a woman hospitalized.

The gunbattle occurred after the suspect blew through a roadblock at Hoover Dam, firing at officers, then later commandeered a Highway Patrol cruiser and carjacked two other vehicles in Kingman.

Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Officer Frank Valenzuela says DPS began following a vehicle on State Route 93 after the Hoover Dam incident. advertisement

At the Arizona Port of Entry west of Kingman, Valenzuela says, the suspect got out of his vehicle, holding a female at gunpoint.

Valenzuela says the man then commandeered a Highway Patrol vehicle and sped off with the female.

Valenzuela says the man stole two vehicles in Kingman before a high-speed chase on Interstate 40 and then back on state Route 93 ended through the use of tire spikes.

Valenzuela says that’s when the gunbattle occurred and the suspect was mortally wounded.

The female with the suspect was taken to the hospital with injuries, although Valenzuela says she hadn’t been shot.

State Route 93 in the area has been reopened but is restricted to one-lane, alternating between south and north-bound traffic.
