JACKSONVILLE, Florida- A man fatally shot his wife and then himself while discussing their upcoming divorce with his attorney on the telephone, police said.
Michael Jenkins threatened to shoot sheriff’s deputies who had come to the home after receiving a report of a possible domestic dispute Sunday morning, said Maj. Craig Aldrich.
As deputies evacuated neighboring homes, Jenkins held his wife, Felicia, hostage inside the house, police said.
During the standoff, Jenkins called his attorney to talk about the divorce, Aldrich said.
After gunshots were heard inside the home three hours later, police broke into the building and found the two bodies. Jenkins’ attorney was still on the phone when the shots were fired, Aldrich said.
The couple were both in their 30s and had been married for about 12 years, police said.
Police said the couple’s four children, ages 4 through 12, were attending church with their grandparents when the shootings took place.
