We have received no reports of injuries to FOP members, but we have learned of widespread damage to their homes. Read how you can help....
Note: All money collected will go directly to aid police officers affected by Hurricane Katrina.
F.O.P. to Send Relief to Officers in New Orleans09/02/05
The National Fraternal Order of Police is coordinating our relief efforts on two fronts.
1. Funding
Lodges, Members and the General Public are being requested to send money to the FOP Foundation, which is a 501(c)(3) charitable entity, which will be responsible for distributing funds on a needs assessment basis. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of members who have been displaced. Click here for more on how to help.
2. Personnel
Active Duty Police officers are needed to assist local officers.
Officers will be performing law enforcement duties to include Patrol, Corrections, Security, standing posts and just about anything in the gambit of law enforcement.
Officers who can respond to the New Orleans area are asked to report to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, which will be responsible for establishing a shelter for law enforcement volunteers.
Officers who respond should follow the following instructions:
Officers will need to bypass New Orleans and enter St. Charles Parish via Interstate 55. Officers should report to Destrehan High School in St. Charles Parish. All sheriff’s deputies will be able to direct you to the high school.
No phone calls, please. They have limited phone lines but they need to have lines available for the public.
Officers responding must adhere to the following:- Have their agency’s permission.
- Have all of their basic police equipment.
- Bring three to five days of food and water.
Officers who can are asked to bring their police vehicles.
If you need additional information please e-mail me and I will get the information. Also, please send me an e-mail if you have officers who plan to go to Louisiana.
This is an FOP-sponsored relief effort and DC Lodge 1 will be sending their mobile kitchen and Capitol Police has agreed to send a detachment of officers in the next few days.
