Iowa Police Donating Vests To Military

The Cedar Rapids Gazette

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) -- The police department will try again to donate bulletproof vests to the military.

The department tried to donate the vests in April to the Vinton Police Department, which was gathering them to send to the military. But enough vests already had been donated and Cedar Rapids’ contribution wasn’t needed, said David Zahn, Cedar Rapids public safety commissioner.

This time the vests will be donated to the Iowa Army National Guard.

Most department replace their vests every five years, Zahn said.

Soldiers wear the police vests in camp for protection.
