CUDAHY, Calif. (AP) -- Maywood police shot and killed a man suspected of beating his 9-year-old son Sunday after the man allegedly reached for an officer’s gun, authorities said.
Michael Dale Anderson Jr., 39, was pronounced dead following the shooting in Maywood, a suburb south of Los Angeles, officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
Anderson fought with officers who determined he had injured his son, and twice reached for one officer’s gun.
A second officer shot and killed Anderson, whose son was treated at a hospital for a possible broken nose and abrasions to the neck and shoulders.
The district attorney’s office and the sheriff’s department will investigate the shooting.
