Two state police officers were shot during a gunfight with drug suspects Thursday in Albuquerque’s South Valley.

Michele Arviso Devlin of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office says the state police officers were investigating suspects at a home at 1125 Bletcher SW.

Two men and a woman pulled up to the home in an SUV, not knowing they were being watched by police.

At some point, a fight began inside the home and the three suspects got back into their SUV and drove off around 3 p.m.

The two state police officers tried to stop the vehicle. That’s when investigators say one or more of the people in the car began shooting at the officers.

Both officers were hit, but they still managed to drive themselves in their undercover Jeep to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s substation on Isleta SW. An ambulance was then called to the scene and both officers were transported to University Hospital.

The officers are recovering. Their names were not released.

At the same time, a deputies were in pursuit of the suspects’ SUV. The vehicle was eventually stopped in the 1900 block of Van Court SW. The two men and woman were taken into custody. Their identities were not released.
