TUCSON, Arizona- Agents with the U.S. Border Patrol searched by air and on foot for a woman who was left behind by a group of illegal immigrants crossing the Arizona-Mexico desert, according to a media report.

The search began around 2:30 p.m. (1830 GMT) Tuesday after a man who had been traveling in the group told workers in the area to call for help, said Jesus Rodriguez, a spokesman for the U.S. Border Patrol’s Tucson sector, the Arizona Daily Star reported.

When the woman began to slow down, the man stayed behind with her while the rest of the crossers continued, Rodriguez told the newspaper.

He said at one point, the man carried the woman because she could not walk. There was no sign of the woman Tuesday, according to the Daily Star.
