TUCSON, Ariz. Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen flew to Arizona today to begin a two-day tour of National Guard operations along the Arizona-Mexico border.

After he arrived, U-S Border Patrol officials briefed Bredesen about what’s going on.

About 400 Tennessee soldiers are currently deployed in Arizona as a part of Operation Jumpstart, involving six-thousand Guardsmen working in support of Border Patrol efforts in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California.

Bredesen says the visit will give him a better sense of what Guardsmen are doing in helping the Border Patrol guard the border. He says he also wants to pay respects to Guard members who’ve served in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The governor visited with Tennessee Guardsmen working as engineers and at entry identification posts.
