DURHAM -- A Durham police officer was treated for minor injuries Friday night after his patrol car collided with another vehicle, officials said.

Officer R. K. Shepard was turning around on eastbound U.S. 70 near Pleasant Drive to respond to a break-in in progress when he collided with the other vehicle, according to a Durham Police Department news release sent late Friday night. The release stated that Shepard’s headlights and siren were on when the crash occurred. It did not say which car was responsible for the collision.

The occupants of both vehicles were treated at area hospitals for injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening. It was unknown how many occupants were in each vehicle. An investigation into the wreck is under way.
