CLOVIS, Calif. A boy whose bike was stolen in front of his eyes got his wheels returned intact, thanks to Clovis police who tracked down the dismantled bike and put it back together for him.

The boy told police that he was at the Taco Bell near Shaw and Armstrong avenues Sunday when he saw a man take his bicycle and ride away from the restaurant.

Officers watched surveillance footage and followed the suspect to the area of Clovis and Shaw avenues, where they found the home the suspect went into. The officers did not locate the man but did find the bike in pieces, Clovis police said.

The officers found every part of the bike, put it back together and returned it to the boy, Clovis police said. The department did not identify the boy, but did post a photo on Twitter of him getting his bicycle back.

Police said they know the suspect. Because the theft was a misdemeanor, the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office will have to review the case and decide whether to issue a warrant, police said.
